GNU Bourne Again SHell

Bash er en sh-kompatibel kommandosprogsfortolker, der udfører kommandoer indlæst fra standardind eller en fil. Bash inkorporerer også nyttige funktioner fra Korn- og C-skallerne (ksh og csh).

Bash er i sidste ende ment som en implementering af IEEE POSIX's skal og værktøjsspecifikation (IEEE-arbejdsgruppe 1003.2).

The Programmable Completion Code, af Ian Macdonal, kan nu findes i pakken bash-completion.
