Xvfb는 아무런 디스플레이 하드웨어 및 물리적 입력 장치가 없는 컴퓨터에서 실 행 될 수 있는 X 서버를 제공합니다. 가상 메모리를 사용하여 더미 프레임버퍼를 에뮬레이트합니다. 이 서버의 주된 사용 목적은 서버 테스팅이지만 이 서버에 대 한 또 다른 새로운 용도가 발견되었습니다; 특이한 농도 및 화면 설정에 대한 클 라이언트 테스트, 백그라운드 렌더링 엔진으로서 Xvfb 배치 처리, 부하 테스트, 새로운 플랫폼으로 X 서버 이식에 대한 지원, 실제로는 X 서버가 필요치 않지만 X 서버를 요구하는 어플레케이션 실행을 위한 소극적인 방법을 제공.

이 패키지는 또한 xvfb-run을 호출하는 간단 스크립트를 포함하며, xvfb-run은 가상 서버 환경에서 X 클라이언트의 자동 실행을 간소화합니다. 이 간단 스크립 트는 xauth 프로그램을 필요로 합니다.
