strumento per raccogliere informazioni sull'hardware per monitor VESA PnP

read-edid consiste di due strumenti:

get-edid usa una richiesta di routine di servizio di interrupt VESA VBE2 per leggere una struttura EDID versione 1 a 128 byte dalla scheda grafica, che recupera queste informazioni dal monitor attraverso il canale DDC (Data Display Channel).

get-edid usa metodi specifici dell'architettura per interrogare l'hardware video (istruzioni in modalità reale x86 su i386, analisi dell'albero dei device Open Firmware su PowerMac) e perciò è disponibile solo per le architetture i386 e powerpc.

parse-edid analizza questa struttura di dati e fornisce in output dati adatti ad essere inclusi nel file di configurazione di XFree86 o X.org. È disponibile su tutte le architetture.
