libibverbs è una libreria che permette ai processi in spazio utente di usare "verbi" RDMA come descritto nella specifica dell'architettura InfiniBand e nella RDMA Protocol Verbs Specification. I NIC ethernet iWARP gestiscono RDMA su TCP/IP per hardware-offloaded, mentre InfiniBand è una tecnologia di rete ad elevato throughput e bassa latenza. I NIC iWARP e HCA (Host Channel Adapter) di InfiniBand gestiscono normalmente l'accesso diretto all'hardware dallo spazio utente (bypassando il kernel) e questo, quando disponibile, è gestito da libibverbs.
Un driver RDMA è composto da una porzione nel kernel e una porzione in spazio utente. Questo pacchetto contiene i driver per "verbi" in spazio utente:
