Le sue peculiari caratteristiche sono le seguenti.

 - Produce un buon output. I simboli speciali (come quelli matematici) sono
   tradotti in entità HTML che dovrebbero essere visualizzate da qualsiasi
   browser grafico. I file delle immagini vengono generati solamente su
   richiesta, durante la conversione della grafica.
 - È altamente configurabile attraverso macro di (La)TeX. Benché sia
   pensato per l'input in LaTeX, gestisce anche un discreto sottoinsieme
   del linguaggio macro di TeX.
 - È veloce.
