Formålet med PC/SC Lite er at tilbyde en Windows(R) SCard-grænseflade i en meget lille formfaktor, for kommunikation med smartkort og smartkortlæsere.

PC/SC-dæmonen anvendes til dynamisk allokering/deallokering af læsedrivere ved kørselstid og håndtering af forbindelser til læserne.
