Bacula er et sæt af programmer, der håndterer sikkerhedskopiering, gendannelse og verifikation af data på tværs af forskellige slags maskiner.

Fildæmonen skal installeres på maskinen for at denne blive sikkerhedskopieret. Dæmonen er ansvarlig for levering af filattributter og data når den bliver anmodet om det af Director og også for den filsystemafhængige del af gendannelsen.
