KchmViewer 是一个使用 C++ 编写的 CHM 帮助文件查看器。与大多数现有 Unix 下的 CHM 阅读器不同，它仅使用 Qt 库编写，因而不依赖于 KDE 或 GNOME。但是它可以被编译为完全支持 KDE，包括 KDE 小工具和 KIO/KHTML 支持。

KchmViewer 的主要优点是非英语语言支持。与其他类似程序不同，多数情况下本软件可以正确检测帮助文件的编码、显示非英语(如汉、俄、韩、日)帮助文件中的表格并对此类文件的内容进行检索。不过对汉语，韩语，俄语和日语等帮助文件的搜索支持仍然在开发当中。

本程序完全安全无害。它不以任何方式支持 JavaScript，并可以选择在打开外部网页或切换到另一个帮助文件之前发出警告。本程序可以恰当的显示每一个目录项的图像。

KchmViewer 拥有完整的 CHM 文件索引支持，包括多索引条目、交叉链接、父子条目和永久书签的支持。它能够正确检测并显示任何有效的 chm 文件的编码信息。
