controleer en onderhoud opslagsystemen met gebruik van S.M.A.R.T.

Het pakket smartmontools bevat twee hulpprogramma's (smartctl en smartd) om opslagsystemen te controleren en onderhouden, met gebruik van de Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System (S.M.A.R.T.) dat in de meeste moderne ATA en SCSI harde schijven is gebouwd. Het is afgeleid van het pakket smartsuite en bevat ondersteuning voor ATA/ATAPI-5 schijven. Het zou op elke modern Linux systeem uitvoerbaar zijn.
